Geis Building Products Creates a Special First Impression at the Regency Hillcrest
It all started about 12 years ago…Jon Schoenheider, owner of Regency Builders, was attending the International Builders Show and got a great idea. And, he knew exactly who to call.
“He called me up and said, ‘Dan, you need to get into the custom garage door business.’ I remember it clear as day,” says Dan Hinkes, owner of Geis Building Products.
Jon’s team had been out at the builders show and saw an amazing opportunity to turn what was previously just a garage door into an architectural, design-driven first impression! Geis Building Products was a natural fit for this work, due to their high integrity in service and design. A decade later, the partnership continues and the Regency Hillcrest on Pewaukee Lake features a custom, Geis-built cedar garage door.
Partnering with Regency
When we asked Dan how long they have been providing garage door service for Regency, he said the partnership dated back 3 generations for both family owned businesses. “That relationship has made us a better company”, he says, “Because as Regency has evolved into the area’s premier custom home builder, we have also had to respond by being able to offer the latest products and technologies available to our industry.” From the start, Geis works to bid out door sizes that would be considered an upgrade for most other builders.
Plans, specs, and PO’s are always clear, which saves everyone involved time and money by avoiding costly mistakes and confusion. When discussing schedules Dan explains, “Their scheduling is second to none. We are given ample time to order product, and we know when we show up to the job site the openings will be ready and there will be a clean safe work environment waiting for us.”
Trends in Garage Doors
Garage doors have come a long way from the vinyl or aluminum products used years ago to simply close off a garage opening. Today, higher R-Values provide excellent insulating qualities, while new designs are creating amazing curb appeal. “The wood look is very popular…be it real wood or maintenance free faux wood finishes. We are also seeing a lot more contemporary glass doors in today’s market,” shares Dan.
“Some specialty items in garage door systems that are coming into play are all about convenience and accessibility. Roll up doors in basement storage areas with limited backspace are on one end of that spectrum, while high lift track systems are being installed to create additional clearance for such things as basketball courts and car lifts.
Custom Garage Doors
Regency has partnered with Geis Building Products for years in creating a special curb appeal experience. “The process starts in the design phase, where homeowner, architect, Regency, and Geis all partner in the vision for the doors. You are not limited to set designs – you can match the architectural features of a home.” Dan adds.
Some of the latest products and services they offer include:
- Custom wood designs
- Carriage style
- Contemporary glass
- Raised panel and recessed panel doors
- OH track systems
- Door openers
- Custom finishes, painting, and staining
The custom doors you’ll see here on the Regency Hillcrest are no exception to that rule. These cedar doors have been perfectly designed and installed to create a special experience when arriving at the home. Because of the courtyard style entry, the garage is quite visible from the front, so crafting a custom, architectural experience was an important part of our design!
Technology Driven Garage Door Openers
Another trend that Dan shared was the use of technology in today’s garage door openers. Geis is a LiftMaster dealer, offering the best technology in residential garage door openers available. From alternative power supplies that allow your opener to function in the event of a power outage to their MyQ smart home system that allows you to monitor and control your door from anywhere in the world, by utilizing an app on your smart phone or tablet.
